1. This show adheres to the rules laid down by the American Rose Society in organizing a rose show and judging will be in accordance with current GUIDELINES FOR JUDGING ROSES. The judges decisions are final. Judging will begin at 9:30 am.
2. Everyone is welcome to exhibit roses in this show provided they are registered for the convention and all roses have been grown by the exhibitor in his/her own outdoor garden.
3. Entry area will be open from 5:00 AM until 9:00 AM Friday, May 4, 2001 at the DOUBLETREE HOTEL. Entries will be received and placement will start at 6:00 AM. The show will open upon completion of judging.
4. This is an alphabetically arranged show. Each variety will constitute a separate group within the class and will be judged on its merits for the variety. Combinations of varieties will be judged as one group.
4. Each exhibitor MUST have a convention registration number which will be used as your exhibitor number. Your exhibitor number must be on the entry tag.
5. Only ARS entry tags are acceptable, securely folded before entries are placed. Only the TOP sections must be completed as to section, class, variety name, exhibitors number and exhibitors name and address. Entry forms must be completed in blue or black ink only. Address stickers or rubber stamps are permitted for the name and address.
6. Only one exhibitor (or team) from any one garden may enter rose classes. More than one entry of the same variety in a class by an exhibitor (team) will disqualify each. All exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor only.
7. During placement, only the Placement Committee will be permitted in the show area, except for arrangement exhibitors and exhibitors entering PSWD Challenge Classes in Section A, who will be permitted to place their own entries. Each exhibitor must leave the show floor as soon as his/her exhibit is placed to his/her satisfaction.
8. Classification of roses will be in accordance with the latest edition of Modern Roses,
Handbook for Selecting Roses, Combined Rose List or the New Rose Registrations in the
American Rose. All roses must be exhibited under their ARS Exhibition Names, as listed in bold type in the ARS Handbook for Selecting Roses. A rose variety need not be registered with the ARS to be exhibited in this show, but must be listed in an ARS recognized publication. ARS publications take priority over Combined Rose List.
9. Horticulture Division entries in violation of ARS or Show Rules shall be disqualified. Entries shall be disqualified for the following reasons:
a. Misnamed, misclassed, misplaced, unlabled or mislabled roses.
b. Stem-on-stem (except for OGRs and Shrubs).
c. Presence of foreign substance applied to the foliage, stem or bloom to improve the appearance of the specimen.
d. Not disbudded when required
10. Containers will be furnished except where noted. All containers have been inventoried and marked and are the property of Kern County Rose Society. They must not be removed from the premises for any reason whatsoever.
11. Any unwanted growth may be removed from any specimen subject to penalty assessed according to the degree of impairment and depending upon the proficiency of removal. Wedging may be used to support a rose in a vase, but should not protrude above the rim of the vase.
12. The responsibility for proper identification and classification lies totally with the exhibitor. However, all possible assistance will be available by means of current recognized publications and our own Consulting Rosarians.
13. All winners are requested to be present at 4:00 PM Friday, May 4th to accept their trophies or make specific arrangements for their acceptance and delivery. District Trophies, Queen, Mini Queen and Dowager Queen will be awarded at the Awards Banquet.
14. Neither Kern County Rose Society, Pacific Southwest District, nor the DOUBLETREE HOTEL assumes responsibility for the loss of, or damage to personal property; however, care will be exercised to protect exhibits on display.

Class 1. J. HORACE McFARLAND MEMORIAL TROPHY
Five hybrid tea blooms, each a different variety displayed in separate containers.
Class 2. MESA ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Four hybrid tea blooms, each a different variety and a different color class, displayed in separate containers.
Class 3. OLD ROSE HIPS & THORNS TROPHY
One specimen, any type or variety, introduced fifty or more years ago.
Class 4. PACIFIC ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Five floribunda sprays, each a different variety, displayed in separate containers.
Class 5. INVITATIONAL ROSE SEMINAR TROPHY
Five miniatures, one bloom per stem, each a separate color class, displayed in separate containers.
Class 6. LAS VEGAS VALLEY ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Three hybrid tea specimens of the same variety showing three stages of development; one bud, one approximately one-half open or in its most
perfect phase of beauty, and one fully open bloom, stamens showing,
displayed in separate containers.
Class 7. ALL-AMERICA ROSE SELECTIONS TROPHY
Three AARS award winning hybrid tea roses, each a different variety, displayed in separate containers.
Class 8. SAN FERNANDO VALLEY ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Three single variety rose sprays, 5-12 petals, any type except miniatures. One, two, or three varieties, displayed in separate containers.
Class 9. LOS ANGELES ROSE SOCIETY CHALLENGE BOWL
A bouquet of Old Garden Roses, six to nine stems, three or more varieties, displayed in one container to be provided by the exhibitor.
Class 10. DEE BENNETT MEMORIAL TROPHY
A bouquet of twelve miniature blooms without sidebuds, one variety or any combination, to be exhibited in a container provided by the exhibitor.
Class 11. SANTA BARBARA ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Three miniature sprays, each spray a different variety, exhibited in separate containers.
Class 12. RALPH S. MOORE DISTRICT AWARD
Seven miniature roses, each a different variety, exhibited in separate containers. All roses must be at exhibition stage.
Class 13. HERB SWIM MEMORIAL AWARD
Three hybrid teas, one bloom per stem, different varieties, exhibited in
separate containers.
Class 14. GRACE SEWARD CHALLENGE CUP
Seven miniature roses, different varieties, Award of Excellence winners, displayed in separate containers.
Class 15. PHOENIX ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Three floribunda sprays, one variety, displayed in separate containers.
Class 16. ALBUQUERQUE ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Three shrub roses: three blooms, three blooms with sidebuds, or three sprays, each a different variety, displayed in separate containers.
Class 17. SCOTTSDALE ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Nine or more large flowered stems (single blooms or sprays) classes other than miniature, four or more varieties, displayed in a container not wider than twelve inches provided by the exhibitor. Floral foam permitted.
Class 18. EL PASO ROSE SOCIETY TROPHY
Six one bloom miniatures without foliage, and not more than two of the same variety, correctly named and exhibited in a Miniature English Box provided by the host society.
Class 19. LUIS DESAMERO CHALLENGE BOWL
Eighteen miniature roses, one bloom per stem, six or more varieties to be displayed in a bowl no wider than four inches using floral foam for staging.
Class 20. One exhibition form bloom, without sidebuds.

Class 28. One Floribunda bloom without sidebuds. Single varieties (5-12 petals) only.
Class 29. One Floribunda bloom without sidebuds. Multiple petaled varieties.

Class 37. Classic Shrub. Shrubs with a family designation. One bloom or one bloom with sidebuds.Family designation MUST appear on the upper right hand corner of the entry tag.
Class 38. Classic Shrub. Shrubs with a family designation. One spray.Family designation MUST appear on the upper right hand corner of the entry tag.

Class 39. Modern Shrubs. Shrubs (S) that do not have a family connection. One bloom or one bloom with sidebuds.
Class 40. Modern Shrubs. Shrubs (S) that do not have a family connection. One spray.

Class 41.*** Large Flowered Climbers (LCl) and Hybrid Wichurana. One bloom without sidebuds or one spray.
Open only to those individuals who have never won a trophy in an ARS sanctioned rose show.
The Walter Stiern Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the best novice entry by a Kern County Rose Society member. A "M" should be placed in the upper right hand corner by the KCRS member.

Class 58. One Spray, Climbing Miniature , Species, or Hybrid Wichurana, exhibited in an orchid tube on black velvet cloth lying on the table. [Tube & cloth supplied by the show committee]
Judging Criteria: 50% for horticultural excellence and 50% on overall display.
