Coming from north of Santa Barbara:

Parking

All-day parking is available on the ocean side of Cabrillo Blvd. There is also a large public parking lot at the corner of Cabrillo Blvd. and Garden Street.

Rules for Exhibitors

The show will be governed and judged by the rules, regulations and guidelines of the American Rose Society (ARS). All are invited to enter. There is no entry fee and membership in a rose society is not required. The set-up area outside the Casa Las Palmas building/patio opens at 7 a.m. The parking lot adjacent to the Casa Las Palmas building may be used by exhibitors as a drop-off location only. Parking in this lot may result in show disqualification. Entries are accepted 7:30 - 9:45 a.m. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. in the show area. Exhibits will remain on display until 5 p.m., at which time they may be picked up by the exhibitor. Exhibits not picked up will become the property of the Santa Barbara Rose Society and donated within the community.

Horticulture

  1. All roses must have been grown by the exhibitor in his/her private outdoor garden. Exhibitors may make only one entry of a variety per class. Duplicate entries will disqualify both.
  2. Roses must be classified and named as listed in bold type in the ARS Handbook For Selecting Roses.
  3. Containers and official ARS entry cards will be furnished at the show. All entries must be accompanied by an entry card with the upper portion completely filled out and securely folded.
  4. Wedging is permitted but it may not extend above the rim of the container.
  5. Entries are to be placed on the Placement table 7:30 – 9:45 a.m. Only members of the Placement Committee are permitted to place entries in the show area (except for arrangements).
  6. An exhibitor is deemed Novice if he/she has never won a trophy in an ARS-sanctioned show. Novice exhibitors may enter all classes. The "Novice" section is restricted to Novice exhibitors. The "Judges" class is restricted to judges of this show, and that is the only class that they may enter.
  7. Roses will be judged on the merits of that particular variety.
  8. There should not be any foreign substances on foliage, stems or blooms.

Arrangements

  1. Entries must be arranged solely by the exhibitor.
  2. Roses must be grown in the exhibitor’s private outdoor garden for eligibility for the medal certificates. This should be designated by indicating "AG" for "Arranger Grown" in the upper right-hand corner of the entry tag.
  3. Roses must provide the dominant flower interest. All roses must be named on the entry tag.
  4. Fresh plant material other than roses is permitted. Dried, painted or artificially colored plant material is not permitted. Artificial flowers, fruit and foliage are not permitted. Plants on the state Conservation List are not permitted.
  5. Bases and accessories are permitted. The use of flags is not permitted.
  6. An exhibitor may enter only one arrangement per class but may enter more than one class.
