In Search of Lost Ralph Moore Roses

by Lyn Griffith and James Delahanty

My name is Lyn Griffith and I am a member of a small group of rose lovers actively searching for roses hybridized by Mr. Ralph Moore and released during his sixty plus years of hybridizing roses. Mr. Moore released over 500 roses in his career and we only need to find approximately eighty more roses to have a full collection of his life's work.

Our primary goal is to keep the roses from going extinct and plants will be distributed to public parks and other nurseries to spread them around so that they are not lost forever. A second archival collection will be maintained by Mr. Paul Barden.

To assist us in getting the word out to all rose society members, Mr. James Delahanty has written an article about finding lost roses in our own backyards. He has freely offered to share this article with all rose societies to be printed in their monthly newsletters or on their websites. Since some readers may recognize the roses by name, we have also prepared a list of the missing cultivars by year of introduction as an addendum to the article.
