Comte de Chambord is a wonderful old garden rose (OGR).  The lovely medium pink blooms open slightly cupped and quartered.  As the bloom ages, the pink will have a lilac tint. This beautiful Portland rose blooms through out the growing season, as it is a repeat bloomer. Many OGRs are difficult to grow for those of us with smaller gardens because of their shear size but that is not the case with Comte de Chambord. The plants are compact and usually stay under four feet. Beautiful dark-green foliage makes a perfect accent for the pink blooms.  The bush can be disease resistant but do keep your eyes open for mildew.

The rose has very delicate petals that can burn when summers get hot. In the spring, flowers cover the small bush with a spectacular display.  After the first flush, the bush will continue to bloom but with fewer flowers.  One of my favorite things about this rose is the fragrance. It smells like you want a rose to smell. It will take your breath away. It frequently makes the list as one of the most fragrant OGRs that you can grow.

If you do like to exhibit, this is a must OGR for your garden.  It consistently is on the trophy table either by itself or in collections. Great exhibition rose; great garden rose.  You can’t go wrong.
